Theatre College

The Theatre College, part of the Open University of Research , is a diverse and multifaceted theatre education programme aimed at students of junior and senior secondary schools. It also provides assistance to teachers who teach elements of theatre and performance studies or want to incorporate them into school curricula or extracurricular classes. In the long-term, we plan to expand the activity of the Theatre College Coordination Centre. The Centre supports theatre education by offering teacher courses, theatre classes, and theatre trips and discussions; by publishing teaching aids; and by facilitating contacts with Polish and international experts. The College offers educational packages for junior and senior secondary schools and year-long series of lectures at the Grotowski Institute. The lectures aim at those with a special interest in theatre and performance who want to gain a solid foundation in the discipline and further their knowledge by meeting experts, university teachers, critics and theatre professionals. In the first year of the programme, lectures were held monthly and the programme had both fixed and variable components. Fixed components included the reflection on various elements of stagecraft and its contexts (theatre in the world of spectacle and performance, theatre space, dramatic means of expression, the phenomenon of acting, directing, the functions and potential of the spectator, the text-stage relationship, non-literary types of performances, the functions of theatre). Variable components included historical and contemporary examples that furnish material for theoretical analysis.

Classes are conducted in Polish.
