I AM AMERICA is based on contemporary poetic material and is composed of a stream of dramatic structures – singing, rhythm, dance, poetry and action. The performance reveals the multifaceted meaning encoded in poetic material in a flow that is organically modulated on the rhythmical and sonic qualities of the poetic word. Through action, song and speech the actors open breaches and move towards the possibility of a fullness of doing. In the dynamic territory between the individual presence and the communal meeting point – in the space created by the performative process, is it possible to re-establish a communal sense between actors and spectators which rejects forms of belonging rooted in tribal or national affinities and ideological interests?
