Maisternia Pisni will present the lyrics of ancient Christmas carols in the modern embodiment of song and video art. The group has created a new artistic idiom which – as its members say – carries the mystery of birth and the taste of the source that we all come from and constantly search for. Maisternia Pisni is a centre for artistic research organised in 2003 in Lviv along the lines of a medieval guild emphasising the master-apprentice relationship. The artistic work of Maisternia Pisni occupies the intersection between theatre and traditional music. Undertaking traditional forms of singing, Maisternia finds a trace blazed by generations leading to what is personal and unique but can be passed to another person. Seen from this perspective, traditional song goes beyond the aesthetic and becomes a vehicle of knowledge, a form of study and therapy, a life-changing experience.
