Winter School of Teatr ZAR

February 7–16, 2011

Teatr ZAR invites to an intensive 10-day workshop meeting. We expect people who are familiar with the work of Teatr ZAR, and who wish to develop their practical skills on the basis of the musical material and training on which our everyday work is based.

Participants of the session will take part in all forms of the training lead by the group members which includes also a new line of physical work based on aikido. At the same time, the subject around which improvisation and physical training sessions will be focused, is our preparation of the second version of the performance Caesarean Section. Essays on Suicide.

One of the aims of the vocal training will be practical exploration of a unique model of work with energy of the sound, based on the hitherto experience of the group members, which includes the Svanetian tradition from the highest Caucasus. Basic element of that is exploring natural harmonic and rhythmic breath patterns which are inscribed in songs, and by connecting them with the voice, moving towards actions based on physical contact. We will also focus on rhythm (based on Balkan and Caucasus rhythm patterns and improvisations) and its connection with breath in physical work which is a step towards work in the field of  composition of acting.
