Anatoly Vassiliev’s Research Seminar on Acting Techniques

For the first time in Poland, Anatoly Vassiliev, renowned director, theatre researcher and founder of Moscow’s School of Dramatic Art, leads his research seminar. The project is hosted by the Grotowski Institute in Wroc³aw as part of the MASTERS IN RESIDENCE programme.

In April 2011, through a competitive process, a group of 30 theatre practitioners from many parts of the world, including Brazil, Canada, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, China, were selected from almost 150 candidates. The selected participants will work with Anton Chekhov’s dramas and prose to improve their acting technique. The work will take place in the Laboratory Theatre Room and in Brzezinka near Ole¶nica.

In autumn 2011 in Wroc³aw, Anatoly Vassiliev will start developing a production which is due to open at the 2nd international theatre festival The World as a Place of Truth in October 2012 in Wroc³aw.

The aim of the MASTERS IN RESIDENCE programme is to prepare and premiere productions by Theatre Masters. The programme is informed by the practice common in European theatrical culture, of offering residencies to foreign artists. MASTERS IN RESIDENCE is unique in that it engages noted theatre practitioners and creates for them in the Grotowski Institute conditions to prepare productions which will receive their premieres in Wroc³aw.

As part of the programme, Peter Brook’s 11 and 12 had its Polish premiere in January 2010. The theatre masters currently preparing their projects at the Grotowski Institute are Eugenio Barba and Theodoros Terzopoulos.
