Division of the Grotowski Institute Archive Collection

The collection of the Archive is divided into:

Documents Section comprised of records relating to the activities of the Laboratory Theatre, the Wroclaw Second Studio, the Grotowski Centre and the Grotowski Institute, including, amongst others, administrative and financial documents, private letters, personal records of employees and certain technical documents, such as building plans

Technical Documentation Section (including the video, audio and photographical libraries):
  • The Video Library comprises about one thousand video tapes and DVDs, including, for example, full documentation of three Laboratory Theatre performances: Acropolis, The Constant Prince and Apocalypsis cum figuris, as well as partial documentation of The Tragic History of Dr. Faustus, several unique film documentaries, and numerous recorded performances and feature films
  • The Audio Library comprises archival broadcast recordings, audio documentation of the activities of the Laboratory Theatre, the Wroclaw Second Studio and the Grotowski Centre, as well as the Institute’s internal materials
  • The photographical Library comprises archival photographs of performances and other public events of the Laboratory Theatre, the Wroclaw Second Studio, the Grotowski Centre and the Grotowski Institute, as well as photographical  documentation undertaken for museum and conservational purposes

Typescripts and Manuscripts Section including, amongst others, directors’ and actors’ texts, actors’ notes, and typescripts of academic dissertations

Museum Items Section including objects of particular significance for research or exhibition, such as draft versions of posters, costume designs, scenic spaces, stage designs, sketches and paintings, elements of stage set, costumes, props, awards and souvenir items

The Library Collection comprising numerous books, journals, press documents and other written materials, including the preserved libraries of the Laboratory Theatre and the Wroclaw Second Studio
