19-27 November 2011

Paris

A project organised by the Grotowski Institute as part of the Cultural Programme of the Polish EU Presidency

A project conducted under the patronage of UNESCO

PERFORMER, PERFORMANCE STUDIES: PERSPECTIVES will include a host of discussions and presentations held to celebrate and explore the uniqueness of the Polish performative tradition and its influence on the current state of theatre and performance in Poland, and to discuss perspectives of performance research in Poland and France.

‘Performer, Performance Studies: Perspectives’ is a multi-faceted, international project organized by the Grotowski Institute in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Theatre Institute (ITI), Université Paris-Sorbonne, ARTA, Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord and Polish Institute in Paris.

The events of ‘Performer, Performance Studies: Perspectives’ will be held in two sections: Education and Research, and Arts and Culture, designed especially for French audiences in mind.

The first section will include lectures given by researchers and scholars from the Jagiellonian University, University of Warsaw, Adam Mickiewicz University, University Sorbonne-Paris IV, Paris 3 et Paris 8 Saint-Denis.

The artistic part of the programme will be a theatrical performance Anhelli. The Calling, the final part of the triptych ‘Gospels of Childhood’. This internationally acclaimed and awarded production from Teatr ZAR will be presented in France for the first time.

The organizers want to expand the programme’s arts section with practical activities. The programme of events will include unique workshops which will give students, professors and theatre practitioners the chance for work closely with members of Teatr ZAR.

The diverse programme of ‘Performer, Performance Studies: Perspectives’ is addressed not only to academics but to anyone interested in the art of theatre. This direction of the Grotowski Institute’s activities aims to strengthen its position on the cultural map of Europe as an important hub of tradition and cultural education and a venue for unique arts and culture events.
