Studio Matejka is a laboratory ensemble investigating the potential of the expressive body within the actor’s craft. In an initial eighteen-month project, the Studio has worked in many contested areas in physical performance: between theatre and dance, between form and spontaneity, between collective resonance and individual expression. In these borders and contradictions, the ‘zero point’- the clear, enlivened moment before all possibilities may follow- becomes common ground. This presentation will explore the processes, questions, tensions and creative materials emergent in this work.
