Alvis Hermanis & New Riga Theatre Sat-Sun 15–16 December 7pm Congress Centre Tickets: 30 PLN, concessions 20 PLN Meeting people from dating ads – this was the initial theme of the production, which has been elaborated for a whole year. The result of this effort is a performance about Latvia and Latvians, about loneliness, about women and men. About the unspeakable yearning to love and to be loved. About the present, where meeting people is becoming more and more of a “luxury”. And about miracles which happen in human lives. The performance Latvian Love is based on true events and actors’ own fantasies. Materials obtained during interviews and meetings – personal stories, letters, photographs – served as a source for the actors’ fantasy and work on the parts. We are in Riga, of course. A wide variety of lovers from different social strata and age groups meet, fall in love, say goodbye, quarrel and separate in many different settings. At the end of the play, we have seen glimpses of fifty biographies, learned much about Latvia and the amorous yearnings of a rich cross-section of the country’s population – and are surprised that all these characters were performed by a cast of merely five actors.  Performance in Latvian with a live translation into Polish. An English-language printed summary of the play will be available.
