We Have Lost the Silver Age
I often speak of the future man – the man capable of entering and exiting, of directing his own course. In Cerceau man is not capable of exiting. He leaves his life at the word “no”, thus putting himself under a curse and dooming himself to destruction. But when man destroys everything, the space he will find himself in will not be empty, it will be clear. Modern man has no inner strength to live by ideals. He leaves his soil, his house, his cherry orchard and drifts away from beauty because he can’t control it, can’t answer the beauty of the world with his own beauty. And by giving up life he collides not with nothingness but with purity. All reflections on life can be found in Cerceau. (Anatoly Vassiliev)
