9th January The twentieth anniversary of Zbigniew Cynkutis’ death.  A special edition of the Italian periodical Biblioteca Teatrale (ed. by Luisa Tinti), dedicated to the work of Maud Robart [Rome: Bulzoni Editore. 77 (January – March 2006)].23rd January A television programme by Wojciech Majcherek, devoted to the transformation of the Grotowski Centre into the Grotowski Institute, was broadcast on TVP Kultura station, presented by Lukasz Drewniak; the guests were Prof. Janusz Degler, Ludwik Flaszen, and the Institute’s directors. 25th January Thomas Richards received honorary citizenship of the city of Pontedera. 4th February 25th anniversary of the death of Jacek Zmyslowski, Grotowski’s partner in the paratheatrical period and in the programme Theatre of Sources. 4th February Prof. Dariusz Kosinski’s article Powrot burzyciela, dedicated to Jerzy Grotowski, appeared in Tygodnik Powszechny (5). 5th–9th February Zygmunt Molik’s workshop ‘Voice and Body’ at the Theatre Institute in Barcelona. 5th February Meeting with Thomas Richards in the Centre Pompidou in Paris, led by Prof. Georges Banu, with the presentation of the films Art as vehicle, and ACTION in Aya Irini. 9th March Anniversary of the birth of Ryszard Cieslak in 1937, in Kalisz. 13th March Jozef Szajna’s 85th birthday, and the 60th anniversary of the commencement of his artistic work. 4th April Zygmunt Molik’s 77th birthday. 27th April Anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Scierski, in 1939.  In April Jerzy Grotowski, a book by James Slowiak and Jairo Cuesta, appeared under the imprint of Routledge, as part of the ‘Performance Practitioners’ series.In its April issue, Teatr magazine (4) published We wlasnym sumieniu, an interview with the directors of the Grotowski Institute by Jacek Kopcinski.  6th May A commemorative plaque to Ryszard Cieslak was unveiled in Kalisz during the 47th festival Kaliskie Spotkania Teatralne.In May was published a re-edition of Jennifer Kumiega’s book The Theatre of Grotowski, first published in 1985, was reissued. http://www.acblack.com/Catalogue/details.asp?sku=1424417&dept%5Fid=7  June – The first two volumes of the serie Opere e sentieri (eds. Antonio Attisanti and Mario Biagini) appeared under the imprint of the Bulzoni publishing house. The first volume was devoted to the work of the Workcenter; the second featured selected essays of Jerzy Grotowski from 1968–1998.24th June, University of Kent in Canterbury, UK. Odra monthly magazine published Ludwik Flaszen’s lecture/speech delivered at the Malta Theatre Festival session in Poznan, in June 2007 (Grotowski and silence [Grotowski i milczenie], no. 10/2007). |
