VoicEncounters
 Practical seminar

Thu-Sun 23–26 May
Na Grobli Studio

This year’s edition of VoicEncounters marks a fundamental change in the direction of Teatr ZAR’s work. Backed by the ensemble’s vocal competence built on over ten years of experience performing polyphonic songs (Teatr ZAR is the only group in the world that sing Svan funeral songs and Sardinian hymns), we decided to start exploring Anatolian monodic traditions for the project “Armine, Sister”. To develop new training and vocal techniques we spent over two years assimilating and embodying the songs. The collected musical material was recomposed, additionally harmonized and orchestrated to build a contemporary music drama.
The seminar will give us the opportunity to share our research and to present a constellation of artists invited to co-create our new performance: musicians from different traditions of Asia Minor, Anatolia and Iran.

VoicEncounters include workshops, in-conversation events, work demonstrations and concerts that involve different ways of using the voice/voice work, which can be incorporated in the creative process to enhance the skills of the actor/performer.
