The workshop will focus on the following areas:
- becoming familiar with the scenic space
- physical possibilities of the actor’s movement
- work on the rhythm of the actor’s movement
- training with objects (sticks, balls, skipping ropes)
- learning about the structure of theatre movement based on biomechanical principles (Meyerhold’s theatre biomechanics)
- becoming familiar with Meyerhold’s classic biomechanical etudes




Gennadi Nikolaevich Bogdanov graduated as an actor from the State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). From 1972 to 1992 he was an actor with the Satire Theatre, Moscow, where he studied Meyerhold’ theatre biomechanics under Nikolai Georgievich Kustov, actor and biomechanics instructor who worked with Meyerhold until 1938. After Meyerhold’s death, Gennadi Bogdanov decided to dedicate his life to popularizing Meyerhold’s system. He started to work at the Russian University of Theatre Arts, first as a lecturer (since 1992) and then as the director of the International School of Theatrical Biomechanics (since 1993). Since 1990 he has been popularizing theatrical biomechanics all over the world through demonstrations, conferences and seminars. He teaches at the ISTA (International School of Theatre Anthropology), directed by Eugenio Barba. From 1979 to 1990 he worked as a stuntman in Soviet and then Russian film studios. He has directed plays in Italy, Germany, USA, France, UK and Russia. In 2004 he founded the International Centre of Theatrical Biomechanics of Perugia (Centro Internazionale Studi di Biomeccanica Teatrale). In 2005 he participated in the 14th session of the International School of Theatre Anthropology in Krzy¿owa and Wroc³aw.
