Olga Kuptsova, PhD, is a historian of theatre and literature. She is Associate Professor in the Section of Literary Criticism and Political Journalism at the Faculty of Journalism of the Lomonosov Moscow State University and in the Section of the Aesthetics, History and Theory of Culture at the Gerasimov State University of Cinematography, as well as Senior Researcher at the Theatre Department of the State Institute of Art Studies, Moscow.


Alexey Levinskiy is an actor, director and teacher. He is the winner of the State Prize of the Russian Federation for the Arts. He graduated from Moscow’s MHAT (1969), where he trained as an actor. From 1969 to 1987 he was a leading actor with the Satire Theatre, Moscow. From 1971 to 1975 he studied biomechanics under Nicolai Georgyevich Kustov, Meyerhold’s former colleague, actor and biomechanics teacher at Meyerhold’s theatre in the 1930s. In 1979 he graduated in directing from the State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). In the same year he began experimental work with actors and students, and founded the Theatre Studio, which is still in existence today. He currently works as an actor and director at Moscow’s OKOLO and Ermolova Theatre, and regularly conducts master classes in biomechanics at the Meyerhold Centre as well as in Austria, Germany, Holland, UK, US and other countries.


Natalia Makerova, PhD, is an art theorist and historian. She is Director of the Meyerhold Memorial Museum and Associate Professor at the Department of Stage Design and Lighting Technology at the Nemirovich-Danchenko MHAT School Studio. She has published widely on stage design.
