The workshop will be conducted in English.

In this workshop we will focus on connecting to who we are through the voice. From the rich inner world that everybody has within themselves we will explore and experiment with different ways into expression and musical form, trusting our intuitive competence, beyond virtuosity and style. You will have the opportunity to explore what “music” means within your voice, and how to allow your own music to emerge. We will move into new territory of our voices beyond the areas that we are habitually using, and enjoy the pleasure of singing together.

Prior musical training is not required. The workshop will include physical and vocal preparation, individual sessions and group improvisation.

Christiane Hommelsheim was invited to run the workshop by the In Medias Res ensemble.

Christiane Hommelsheim is a vocalist, voice performer, improviser, videomaker and voice teacher. In her artistic work she is researching the particularities and possibilities of her own voice in the system of connections between voice, body and consciousness. Since 2010 she has been a Roy Hart Voice Teacher, certified by the Centre Artistique International Roy Hart in France (CAIRH), and has taught regular workshops in Germany, Belgium, Austria and France. She also teaches individual classes in Berlin and occasionally does vocal coaching for theatre and dance productions.

Centre Artistique International Roy Hart (CAIRH) is a democratic association that exists to foster the dynamic heritage of Roy Hart Theatre. Roy Hart Theatre is known for its unique work on vocal expression and the extension of the human voice. It has its origins in the work of Alfred Wolfsohn and his research into the links between the voice and soul. Roy Hart continued Wolfsohn’s work and created the Roy Hart Theater. Many members of the original Roy Hart Theatre company continue to explore the voice, create, perform and teach at the Centre, in their own companies and all over the world. To this day, the work of Roy Hart Theatre is recognized as one of the major influences in the field of voice in both its artistic and personal applications.
