Contact and application
Please send your completed application form to Justyna Rodziñska-Nair at justyna@grotowski-institute.art.pl by 17 April 2015. The number of places is limited. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Training is a one-day workshop.

The jumping-off point for the training will be traditional body techniques and movement codes adapted from Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Regional, which can be used in both stage work and everyday human interaction. The transformations and “pivotal points” developed by Two Paths Studio will serve as the basis for exploring Afro-Brazilian culture in search of an individual and group body language. An important part of the work will be learning traditional musical rhythms and songs of capoeira and candomblé. Participants will learn how capoeira enables an individual process of creative expression through body, voice and sound.

Jakub Gontarski is a graduate of the 13 Film Stunt School in Wroc³aw. He practiced the Japanese martial art of judo and the Brazilian martial art of capoeira (in Brazil and in many European countries). He plays Afro-Brazilian instruments. Jakub is interested in movement and body mechanics, and performs movement improvisations on stage to live music. He taught movement classes at Ente private kindergarten (European Cooperation Centre) and worked for the Krzy¿owa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe. He teaches workshops with socially excluded youth in Wroc³aw, including as part of the project Thought in Motion, undertaken by the Institute of Music and Dance. He is a co-organizer of the ¯ywe Kultury Ruchu CYRKULACJE festival in Wroc³aw and co-creator of the productions Animan – I Am That and Madhouse. Jakub collaborates with the Grotowski Institute as the leader of Two Paths Studio, which is a part of the BodyConstitution research programme. He serves as Secretary of the Momentum Association of Creative Initiatives.

Two Paths Studio seeks to develop a training which focuses on the idea of confrontation and opening to new concepts of movement and body work based on the martial arts experience of Studio leaders, Przemys³aw B³aszczak (aikido) and Jakub Gontarski (capoeira). “Two Paths” are not only two different Japanese and Brazilian movement traditions, but also two different paths: the path of the warrior and the path of the performer. The work of the Studio focuses on how people relate to space (both the workspace and the space of contact with a partner and the group). The extensive experience of the Studio members (Tomáš Wortner, Karolina Brzêk and Agnieszka Rybak) gives them a multi-perspective look at the idea of “two paths” so they can co-create training methods and tools in a group process. Two Paths Studio works at the Grotowski Institute in Wroc³aw as part of the BodyConstitution research programme.
