ATIS NICHE
STUDIO || ROSA’s consultative seminar as part of an its exploratory theatre undertaking called Feeling the PULSE

Led by Prof Grzegorz Zió³kowski, assisted by Maciej Zakrzewski and Maria Bohdziewicz

Sun–Wed 13–30 September 2015
Brzezinka, forest location of the Grotowski Institute
In English

The seminar aims at exploring the intersections between technical aspects of theatre work and the spheres of the imagination, composition and creation. The explorations focus on awareness, responsibility for one’s actions and the harmonisation of breath, body and voice. The project is devoted to the shaping of ethical attitudes towards theatre art. Theatre is understood here as a space for sharing questions about humanity with others.

ATIS NICHE is an advanced seminar addressed to those artists who would like to consult and develop their own creative work on training and/or individual performances in a friendly and supportive environment.

From those who apply, 6 persons will be selected by Prof Grzegorz Zió³kowski and provided with free tuition, accommodation, food and reimbursement of travel costs to and from Wroc³aw up to 200 EUR. Transportation from Wroc³aw to Brzezinka and back will also be provided.

The work will focus on:
  • actor training
Work on breath, flow of actions, partnership, rhythms, singing, spatial awareness, text
More information: www.grzeg-atis.home.amu.edu.pl
  • group composition From STARS to SILENCE
The composition – with the music of Polish accordion group Motion Trio – studies reactions of individuals to organised and structured systems represented by group formations. Its aim is to:
  • balance the group’s energy (the composition can be viewed as an ironic commentary on the ‘star system’ of acting)
  • study different aspects of training (above all: spatial awareness, rhythm, timing and synchronisation)
  • provide a frame into which advanced elements of training work may be interwoven.
  • individual “fail (better)” composition which summarises the practical study of technical aspects of theatre work
  • individual etudes and/or dramatic miniatures
Etudes are short (up to 15 minutes), precise and repeatable scenes which may include texts, songs, dances, actions, music, etc. They are studies of specific issues related to the intersection of training and performance – melting pots where the work reaches its highest intensity and tempo. Dramatic miniatures are collections of etudes connected together according to the principles of montage. Participants should arrive with precise and repeatable compositions of scenes. Their propositions will be questioned and reworked during ATIS NICHE.
