Natalka Polovynka. Phot. Maciej ZakrzewskiNatalka Polovynka – singer, actress, teacher. She was born in the Vinnica region, in Ukraine, into a family of teachers. She studied at the Lysenko State Conservatory in Lviv (under Prof. Tarnavetska) and later undertook an internship at the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski in Pontedera, Italy. From 1988 she collaborated with the Les Kurbas Theatre in Lviv. She has received awards from numerous international music and theatre festivals. She performs ancient religious music, folk songs, romances, music by contemporary composers, and contemporary improvisational music. She has collaborated with Sergey Kovalevich, from Moscow, since 1996.

Sergey Kovalevich – director and methodologist of music-based dramatic theatre, pedagogue, student of the distinguished theatre-maker Vladimir Klimenko (Klim). From 1988–2002 he was director of the traditional Word and Voice drama school in Elektrostal (Moscow Oblast, Russia). He has been working in theatre for over fourteen years: ranging from classical theatre to laboratory and experimental research, as well as cultural projects rooted in the traditions of the Orthodox Church. He has also directed several anthropological film documentaries (Чтения, 2003 [Reading]; Неведение [Ignorance], 2004), dedicated to N. G. Alexeyev – one of the founders of the Russian school of methodology.

Olena Kostiuk. Phot. Maciej ZakrzewskiOlena Kostiuk – artist, actress, singer and musician. Graduated from the Iwan Franki University in Lviv. She has been a member of Maisternia Pisni since 1997. Leader of the project The Mirror, and one of the performers in On Sunday morning. Responsible for graphic design at Maisternia Pisni; designer of company’s website and the covers of the company’s records – The first day, Oh God, give me, The songs of the wind. She participated in the work on the film Po-starowitsky (BAI – multimedia project) and the film recording of On Sunday morning.

Ostap Kostiuk. Phot. Maciej ZakrzewskiOstap Kostiuk
– musician, actor. Graduated from the History Department at the Iwan Franki University in Lviv and in Acting Studies at the Les Kurbas Theatre in Lviv. He has worked with Maisternia Pisni since 2002. Reasercher into the Hutsul music tradition and director of the project BAI. Hutsul mystery. He organised the traditional Hutsul music concerts Po-starovitsky and BAI-Rozmaj, and participated in traditional Hutsul instrument classes with the folk masters: Mychail Tafijczuk, Jury Tafijczuk, Fedir Kopczyk and Wasyl Kicnak.  

Ulyana Horbachevska. Phot. Maciej ZakrzewskiUlyana Horbachevska – artist, singer, actress. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lviv. From 1998–2003 she worked as a restorer of icons and monumental paintings (in the St John the Baptist Cathedral in Przemysl, St Andrew’s Cathedral, the Trinity church in Lviv, and others). She has worked with Maisternia Pisni since 2002, performing in On Sunday morning (within the project Rasa – Women’s ritual) and designing the costumes for this project.



Nazar Romaniuk. Phot. Maciej ZakrzewskiNazar Romaniuk– singer, musician. He has worked with Maisternia Pisni since 2003 and is also an administrative director of the company.








Jurij Josyfovych. Phot. Maciej ZakrzewskiJurij Josyfovych
– singer. He has collaborated with Maisternia Pisni since 2006. Graduated from the Law Department at Kiev International University. For eight years he sang in the choir and was involved with the music group Dudaryk. He participated in the Voice Station project, run by Les Kurbas Theatre in Lviv.
