Mr. Cogito’s Requiem

The performance is based on the Zbigniew Herbert’s poetry. It tells a story of a man – Mr. Cogito – who is crossing the border of consciousness (death). The hermetic, ascetic form of Herbert’s poems is supplemented with Mozart’s Requiem. The third source element for the project is butō dance.

The third lecture given by Grzegorz Ziolkowski on Jerzy Grotowski’s research in the field of Theatre of Sources.
Lecture illustrated by Margaret Mead’s and Gregory Bateson’s documentary film Trance and Dance in Bali (1952, 20’). This unique dokument was made by Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson durring their visit in  Pagoetan, a village on Bali, in 1930s. The film shows the ritual krises danse (daggers) from Bali, durring which dancers go into possession ceremonies.
