Body as Space – work session led by Matej Matejka

8th–11th June 2010

Information and applications:
Magdalena M±dra: magda@grotowski-institute.art.pl
Matej Matejka: studiomatejka@grotowski-institute.art.pl

The workshop aims to explore a specific line of personal and individual expression of the performer. It addresses practical questions present in my work in theatre, a search for the process of the performer that retains the essential expression and avoids unnecessary aesthetics.

The work evolves from the centralizing of energy in the body, wakening the centre of the body and grounding th e energy of the performer. We will dive into intense physical training combining simple actions with demanding layers of physical tasks.

Special focus is placed on isolation techniques as well as improving subtle expression, or inner-articulation, of the body.

Attention will also be plad on:
- awareness and the readiness to act
- intensified transmission between body-mind
- encountering and expressing intuitive physical language

- perceiving intuitive physical expression and transcribing it into framed action

- connection between fragments; the process of transition.

The session is targeted towards practitioners with an interest and experience in dance or theatre. This challenge requires serious focus and precision from all engaged in the work. It is open to those who are willing to search in less common fields of physical expression.

Applicants interested in participation in the work session should send a short letter of motivation and CV to studiomatejka@grotowski-institute.art.pl or magda@grotowski-institute.art.pl by the 25th April 2010. The number of participants is limited and therefore, if selected, a confirmation of your participation will be sent by the 2nd May 2010.

The workshop will be led in English and therefore knowledge of the language is necessary.

The price of the workshop is 100 Eur per participant. The price includes solely the fee for the workshop.
