At the edge of Masuria in the small village of Węgajty in Warmia (Ermland), a special barn is located. The actors of Węgajty Theatre are a miscellaneous bunch of Poles, Germans, Ukrainians and Scots.
What is special about the performances in Węgajty is also the fact that the spectators don’t simply go home after the play is finished. Accompanied by violin, double bass and accordion music, the guests are drawn into a roaring dance celebration. The boundaries between theatre and life are dissolving.

This documentary tells the story of Węgajty Village Theatre, a company established in 1986 that works amid local Warmia people, following in the lineage of travelling theatre troupes. The director personally knows all company participants and has accompanied them on their artistic journey since the group’s inception. The film ruminates about the question whether theatre companies that foster rural culture and uphold vanishing rituals are needed today.
